The fire that hit a shopping mall in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique left more than P800 million worth of damage to structures.
FO3 Lee Altobar, arson investigator of the San Jose Municipal Fire Station, said the estimated cost of damage was pegged at P833,137,500.
The management of Gaisano Grand Mall has not yet released the estimated amount of damage to products.
The fire broke out on Thursday afternoon, June 17, and it was declared out by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on Saturday, June 19.
Altobar said investigation is still ongoing to determine what really triggered the blaze.
In an interview with BFP-6 regional director Fire Senior Supt. Jerry Candido, he said the fire, which was reportedly started from the ceiling of the mall’s second floor, may be “electrical in nature.”
