Guimbal, Iloilo Mayor Oscar “Oca” Garin Sr. passed away on Sunday, Sept. 26. He tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
"The patriarch of the Garin Family and the First District of Iloilo passed away at 3:33 in the afternoon of September 26," said former congressman Oscar 'Richard' Garin Jr.
"On behalf of the Garin family, we request for everyone's understanding as we mourn our irreplaceable loss. We are most grateful for the words of condolences and encouragement from our friends and supporters," he added.
Meanwhile, Iloilo Vice Governor Christine "Tingting" Garin described her father as a "geat man."
"Love you so much Tatay. Always & Forever! Your legacy will live on...si Oca pa!"
For AAMBIS-Owas Representative Sharon Garin, her father was the "best mentor and supporter."
"Oca is a legend, in this life and after this life."
The 79-year-old mayor died in a private hospital in Iloilo City.
Oca became congressman of the province's First District. He also served as administrator of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA).IMT
