Gumarin limits movement of Guimaras town residents

Guimaras Governor Samuel Gumarin on Wednesday, Aug. 11, ordered restricted movement of people to and from the municipality of Nueva Valencia effective immediately amid a rise in the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

In his Executive Order number 33 issued on August 11, Gumarin said that 58 of the province’s 123 total active cases were from the municipality.

“While contact tracing is currently underway in the municipality, there is a dire need to restrict the movement of persons to and from Nueva Valencia in order to thwart the spread of the COVID-19 cases in the entire province,” he said.

Residents of the municipality are prohibited from going to other municipalities of the province except for work or work-related transactions, access or purchase of essential goods, medical reasons, and other grounds allowed by the provincial government.

Those coming from municipalities of Jordan, Buenavista, Sibunag, and San Lorenzo can only enter the town for similar reasons.

Travelers to and from Nueva Valencia are required to secure a travel pass. Government workers have to secure their passes from their heads of offices while non-government workers and individuals will have to ask from their barangay chairpersons.

The governor also ordered the local government of Nueva Valencia to establish border control points.

“In all cases, inhabitants of areas placed under lockdown by proper authorities shall comply with the guidelines issued,” he added.PNA
